"Annihilation movie featuring Natalie Portman to be filmed in Aldershot":

http://www.gethampshire.co.uk/news/local-news/annihilation-movie-featuring-natalie-portman-11385270

Scenes of the psychological thriller will be filmed in Alison's Road on the evening of Friday, May 27, with some streets closed to traffic

An Aldershot road is set to become immortalised on the silver screen, with scenes of a blockbuster movie due to be filmed in the town.

Annihilation, a psychological thriller with sci-fi elements, will be set in the USA and features a group sent on a secret mission into the ‘jungle delta’.

It is being produced and directed by Lighthouse Pictures, the same British team behind Oscar-winning Ex Machina, and will star Natalie Portman.

Residents and businesses living near Alison’s Road have received a letter from the supervising location manager for the movie, Alex Gladstone, telling them of plans for filming between Friday (May 27) at 6pm and 5am Saturday morning.

The letter says: “Alison’s Road, Aldershot, has been identified as a great visual and logistical potential in being used to represent a ‘Baltimore Street’ in the film.

“In a scene near the beginning of the film, an ambulance is seen to be stopped on its journey by a group of mysterious vehicles... including a helicopter...

“With appropriate permissions in place through local stakeholders including Granger plc, Rushmoor Borough Council , the Army and local bus companies, we will be shooting a scene of the film along Alison’s Road, Aldershot, during the evening of Friday May 27 between 6pm and 5am.

“The sequence is planned to be set on Alison’s Road between the junction with the A325 and the Queen’s Avenue junction (by the church), and we are concentrating our local liaison to a 1,000 metre radius from the entrance to Browning Barracks.”

The letter adds that Clubhouse Road and the western section of Alison’s Road will be closed to traffic during this time and diversions will be in place.

Residents are encouraged to get in touch with the team if they have any comments or questions.

This is not the first time Rushmoor has been used by film-makers. In 2010, Farnborough Airport and the Bruneval Barracks, in Aldershot, were used for the Bond film Quantum of Solace.

Just over the border in Farnham, Bourne Woods has been used for scenes in War Horse, The Golden Compass, Gladiator and Robin Hood.

In 2012, Frensham Ponds was the location for scenes of Snow White and the Huntsman, starring Kristen Stewart.

So surely we can finally see some pictures of the shooting---

More location sets:

http://www.banburyguardian.co.uk/news/local-news/sci-fi-movie-is-shot-in-heyford-bomb-bays-1-7402384

thrilling science fiction movie starring Oscar Isaac, Natalie Portman and Jennifer Jason Leigh is about to begin around the Cold War bomb bays at Upper Heyford.

The film, called Annihilation, is being backed by Paramount Films but being shot by Pegasus Group over three days between now and the end of June.

But before the stars arrive, set designers will cover the old bomb storage buildings with lichen and moss, roadways are being covered with gravel, mud and bark and fake fences and guard towers are being put up.

Senior planner for Pegasus, Kerry Pfleger told Cherwell District Council: “The site will be used to create the vision of an abandoned military site in the southern United States.

“The scenes to be filmed are predominantly night scenes with the lighting to be supplied by the moon, a single overhead key-light and a collection of torches.”

“There will be no effect lighting or searchlights.

“Filming will be dialogue only and will not involve any amplified sound, pyrotechnic effects, simulated gunfire or similar theatrical activities.”

Annihilation is written by Jeff VanderMeer and adapted by the director, Alex Garland who is known for his work on 2015 psychological thriller Ex-Machina, which won an Oscar for best visual effects.

It seems that filming in London is over, or at least the Gina Rodriguez´s part:

The author of the novel has been visiting the film set today .... And it seems that was quite impressed with the people involved in the project:

Jeff VanderMeer finished his visit to the set yesterday, and here summarizes his thoughts about the film, and briefly mentions Natalie shooting a scene:

https://www.facebook.com/jeff.vandermeer/posts/10153851000504195

Visited a location shoot outside London today for the Annihilation movie, for scenes involving the abandoned village. I must say, it was uncanny how they'd found a place that looked like overgrown buildings in North Florida. The old mailboxes covered in lichen look just like how ours is right now--we could've brought it and saved them a prop. The producers and others were incredibly kind in showing us around, and Alex Garland let us tromp all over the set, admiring how seamlessly the builds fit in with the landscape. I was also pleased to see just how many women have key roles in the production. The final scene we watched before we left, involving Natalie Portman and Tessa Thompson, sent chills down my spine it was so good and both so poignant and so creepy. Not a scene in the book, but one very much in the spirit of the book. Then Entertainment Tonight showed up and interviewed me on the fly, which was surreal.

It's a shame we can not see more pictures of Natalie and Jennifer. I think that they are reserving for further promotion....

According to Gina Rodriguez on her Twitter, filming ended yesterday:

https://mobile.twitter.com/HereIsGina/status/748950213948309504

.... Which makes sense, considering that Tessa Thompson has to join the filming of Thor in Australia this coming Monday, and that Natalie should join the filming of the last Dolan film on July 9 in Montreal.

The Film Stage makes a collection of BTS images of the film, seen these last two months in instagram. Particularly interesting are the photos of Rob Hardy, director of photography, about the visual aspect of the movie, clearly inspired by Andrei Tarkovsky

Well ... it seems that although Tessa Thompson and Gina Rodriguez have finished their participation in the movie, the shooting continues, and next week scenes will be shot in Holkham:

Only with extras, or with some of the leading players? who knows...
