Dying at the photoshopping of her face on this cover:

Typical

Makes you wonder wether there are any covers that arent touched up

No there aren’t. It’s not even a secret. I don’t mind photoshopping when it’s about art; the problem is when they try to sell something with it. (Laughed so hard at the last Dior ad on the photos thread.)

Really, captcha? Has it come to this?

Not to be a snob, but that isn't really like a math problem exactly. It's like asking "what is pi?"; you don't have to understand it to know the answer. It's a gross, so it's a measurement that was meaningfully built on the answer to that question, so it's more like trivia than math.

Thats what their counting on given the captcha 'slave labour solvers' that spammers use are predominantly based in Asia

Out sourcing is just another sign that Capitalism is slowly failing

I'd bet if you compare the quality of the tele marketers in places like India & the west you'd find in the west they'd be largely unqualified unskilled people who couldnt do anything else but in India their university graduates who could be anything but choose that career because it pays the best.

Then compare what wages those in the west are getting to their indian counterparts...

Maybe not quite slavery but its certainly a rush to the bottom as all the awards & entitlements built up over decades are gone in an instant

They will reap what they sow because if the workers in the west keep having their disposable income reduced the whole set-up which is largely out source/export/import,will fall down like a house of cards.

yeah the salary difference is freaking huge. Here they wouldn't hire you unless you have a degree and do give you a good wage better than the ones in the local market, but when you compare it in the West you got less skilled people doing your job at the full price. I worked in a call center before and the expat was freaking 19 years old and a supervisor, teaching more than a hundred degree holding trainees. I don't know if that's the case everywhere but considering the job, you don't even need a diploma for it. As long as you have good English you can do it. I think some call centers are accepting undergraduates but most of them still require a degree in any course.

We were basically like factory workers with a more than minimum wage salary. The problem is the call centers will make these promises to make themselves look good to the clients, and then squeeze the life out of their workers. At times it does feel like slave labor.

There was an anti outsourcing bill that was supposed to be passed in the US but didn't pull through, Obama supported it.

The joys of telemarketing

In Australia they've given the workers in the telemarketing charity sector huge tax concessions because they simply cant attract enough people

Thats a real wtf given most of the money being raised goes towards paying unbelievable salaries at the top end

One door to door childrens/breast/bowel cancer charity I did some voluntary work for a few years back recently had to change its name and structure because the guy who started it was paying himself 10% of everything raised.....they'd raise 5 million in a year...

$AUS500,000 salary for doing nothing other than setting it up

Heres the judgement which led them to re-starting minus their chief executive

That's kinda sweet, actually. A girl I used to know had earrings with fossils in them...sort of like an industrial equivalent.

Ridiculous CL Bartering is fun. It was more fun in college when I would actually need a shitty chair or would actually hang a picture of a baby playing with a leopard or w/e, but sadly it's only getting this popular by the time I wouldn't actually take any of this stuff.
