From someone who knows his stuff or at least has solved every one of my PC problems.I simply asked him to name the essential add-ons

Adblock Plus and filter set

Customize Google

Tor

Errorzilla Plus



That is all you really need. Block ads, privacy if you need it, help with website connection problems and you can control how google behaves.



For Thunderbird you only really need Enigmail and Sunbird.

Not exactly an add-on but a browser that is configured towards your computer

makes firefox look slow but be sure to read everything as there are some cpus that it wont work with
