My new system arrived yesterday and installing the PSU (the only holdover component) and win 8 was a breeze.

Did a clean install of win 8 obviously (update may result in more issues) and haven't had a single issue so far. Have installed probably 80% of my programs and data so far.

Random unexpected windows 8 positives...

Love the extra info on file transfers. Love how copying over files and folders can be accomplished with one click. LOVE the new task manager. No need to install daemon tools? Seems so, just right click an iso and click mount! The search functionality is great - thought it would be hard to find stuff but it's super easy. Plus if you right click bottom left corner you essentially bring up a hidden start menu.

Negatives...

Metro looks really nice but haven't touched it too much yet. What is annoying is watching a video from the media player app is full screen and when you switch out to check mail or something the video stops. Also finding the sounds annoying. Not sure if that's me just being used to the old sounds and thrown by new ones. And missing sounds like clicking into folders now doesn't have a noise associated.

Still uber early days but anyone scared of upgrading really shouldn't worry. You can mostly ignore the Metro stuff and then what you're left with is a quicker better windows 7.5.

A few headaches but it really depends on what you have running on your PC

Mostly anti-virus from what I've read over the past few weeks

Yeah I used to use Avira but heard MSE is basically now windows defender which comes with Windows so haven't bothered to install a 3rd party.

Issue with Windows 8 if your running multiple monitors
causing severe mouse problems - almost 3 weeks old

Probably pay to wait and see if they can fix it

Cheap promotion cut-off date 28.2.2013 is good for another 3 months

Cool. Am not a wiz with Illustrator, but I love it nonetheless. I got this free 3d software from Google called SketchUp, will test it later.
